When you meet Amy Hanneman, be prepared to answer the question “if not you, then who?” It’s a charge she often puts to herself and Northwestern Mutual’s diversity and inclusion team as they foster a more equitable workplace for over 8,000 employees.

She’s new to Milwaukee – about four years in – but, she’s made an impression and is fast becoming one of our city’s most influential leaders. Of course, she’s a D&I dynamo, but she’s also experienced in government and media relations, change management strategy, facilitation, coaching and speaking.

We’re kicking off Bootcamp with Amy and you don’t want to miss the chance to hear her story of leadership! If not you, then who?

More About the Speaker

Amy Hanneman joined Northwestern Mutual in March 2019 as the Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are top priorities of the company. Amy and her team work across the organization to drive leadership at all levels, helping everyone understand and maximize the link between DEI and bottom-line results. Before joining NM, Amy led DEI for DXC Technology and Hewlett Packard. Prior to moving into human rights work, she worked in multiple fields within defense and aerospace with Raytheon including sales, international business development, contracts negotiation, and government relations. Favorite roles in her career include negotiating with NATO, being the chief of staff to a CEO, working on Capitol Hill, and leading 160 Employee Resource Groups in 32 countries.

Amy has a Master of Business Administration from Boston University and a Psychology degree from the University of Mississippi. She serves on the board of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates as well as the Milwaukee Urban League. Recent awards include being recognized as a Top 100 Chief Diversity Officer by Diversity & Leadership, Inc, and being named to the Women’s Leadership Diversity IMPACT 50 List.

Does the fear of financial statements have you unsure of the decisions you’re required to make as a volunteer board member or employee? You are not alone. Every day non-finance people are given financial data to analyze, interpret and use for decision making. And, every day, there are professionals who don’t want to admit that they don’t fully understand how to analyze, read and interpret the information.

Ask yourself these questions:

- Have you been handed a financial statement to use in decision making, only to find yourself confused by the numbers?

- Do your eyes glaze over when you’re given a financial statement that you’re expected to analyze and understand?

- Are you required to put together financial documentation, but you don’t know where to start?

Christine has coached over 500 Milwaukee leaders, many through Marquette’s Future Milwaukee program. She’s technically retired, but she’s still coaching and bringing her 40+ years of experience to leaders on the move.

She was the first woman Mayor in Milwaukee County’s history; the first suburban MMSD Commission Chair, has served as an alderperson and more. Join us, and Christine is sure to spark something in you. You may even see your future.

More About the Speaker

Christine Hill retired as the executive director of the Future Milwaukee program, whose mission is to develop, motivate and empower diverse, ethical leaders who create positive change throughout Milwaukee. Future Milwaukee has more than 2,000 graduates who are making an impact in the Greater Milwaukee area through their leadership positions in government, business, education, religious and nonprofit institutions. Hill earned a master’s in interpersonal communications and conflict management from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a bachelor’s degree from Carroll University in sociology. She has expertise, knowledge and success in several areas including facilitating strategic planning processes; developing and implementing customized communication programs around organizational change; assessing individual and group strengths; mediating between individuals and groups, providing conflict resolution and intervention; and coaching and counseling individuals at all levels of the organization and in a variety of roles within the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Hill has been a city alderman and mayor, chairman of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District Commission as well as director of human resources and organizational development in public sector and private manufacturing environments. Today, her clients include private, nonprofit and public-sector professionals with an interest in developing authentic, courageous leadership.
