Urban Ecology Center, Inc. (“UEC”) uses education and community building to restore and heal our urban natural world in the city of Milwaukee. The environmental community centers provide outdoor science education for urban youth; protect and use public natural areas, making them safe and accessible; preserve and enhance natural areas and their surrounding waters; promote community by offering resources that support learning, volunteerism, stewardship, and recreation; and practice and model environmentally responsible behaviors. The UEC’s major program is the school program which serves over 60 urban neighborhood schools with high quality science programs. UEC also offers outdoor programs for all ages; has turned once crime-ridden parks into field research sites for community members and local colleges and universities; and conducts land restoration activities in the heart of the city. |
